What is the big deal of touchscreens on computer?

Question by luke the scientist: What is the big deal of touchscreens on computer?
It is just a big gimmick useless expensive piece of dog shit. Why do people even want touchscreens for their computer? Touchscreens are backwards except if you are using it in medical purposes, that is only useful, but even there, you usually need a computer unless you are right above the patient, then you need a phablet(Phone like Tablet). I don't get the deal with touchscreens on a computer, it is like a 50 year step backwards, seriously, thanks to Tablet users, why can't people use Laptops instead of an iPad? There are a lot of better and affordable laptops than iPads!

Why pay sometimes the same or a little more and get quarter of the laptop's power? The only purposes I see for Tablets is that they are for medical uses, other than that, they are just a big iPod Touch/Smartphone. I wouldn't one to game on one, not like stupid cheap games like Angry Birds and Temple Run on a computer, but Terraria, Minecraft, Counter-Strike, Call of Duty, Team Fortress, Half-life, Mortal Kombat, or even just plain flash games/HTML5. They are one of the things driving technology backwards like most, if not all of Organized Religion(Yes I am an Atheist). You could use a laptop at the airport or car, unless the car is really crowded! That is why Windows 8 is designed for touchscreens, due to stupid fucking tablet users who can't seem to use a laptop or a smartphone. 97% of a computer's things can't be done on a tablet. Why use a Tablet anyway? Try a laptop or smartphone instead!
Also Another thing, I wonder why Indie(Independent Gaming) like Minecraft, Terraria, Towns(Yes it is a game, here is the link: http://www.townsgame.com ) are so unpopular while good because the developers listen to them a lot at least half of the time.

My camcorder has a touch screen--it allows for camera adjustments--while filming--the camcorder doesn't shake../
Other than that--its is a bit redundant..
The hand held devices are granted touch screen..
While alot of the rest is just--push.

I have read reviews of windows 8, and it is not recommended unless you want it for a tablet. I have windows seven and wouldn`t upgrade even if it was free, which it nearly is- it is about $ 40 to upgrade.

I have an ipad, and find the touch screen useful for surfing the net, and when I travel, I take it. More importantly that reducing size and weight etc, a touch screen means you can use it when lying on the sofa or on a bus- not so easy with a mouse.

Do you have a phone? Is it a smartphone? Do you use a mouse? No. So tablets and touchscreens do have their place. When you are on the move or want to do things that don`t require very accurate pointing, and you don`t mind your finger obstructing your view, and don`t need to do much typing then touch screens are great.

I agree with what you say about games, but I think you are thinking that everyone must have a tablet or touchscreen computer now, and that is not the case. I don`t have a touch screen PC but if I did, i think my arm would get tired fast- after all people get tired arms from using the mouse! so a touch screen would be killer if you had to move your hand around for hours stretched out in front of you.

Stop fretting- touch screens are not taking over.

More people are using touch screen than ever. How many people do you know who have smart phones with touch screen? They’re everywhere. People are starting to expect that all devices have touch screens so PC manufacturer’s much match that expectation or fall behind the trend.

Our modern world exists because it’s built on the foundation of mathematics from Islam. Heck we have them to thank for Algebra! The Catholic Church funded the great thinkers like Leonardo Da Vinci and Galileo. During the Dark Ages the Catholic Church preserved books of learning and the advent of the printing press and production of Bibles led to an increase in literacy and thus learning. Who knows where the world would like like without these institutions that promoted learning and the preservation of knowledge!

Anywho, I have Windows 8 on my desktop PC and it works fine without a touch screen. I almost never use the mouse when I’m on the start screen as it is. The tiles are larger targets than the tiny start menu icons and are easier to hit no matter if you’re using a mouse pointer, trackpad, or fat finger. You can also pin many more program to the start screen so you don’t have to navigate the all programs list anymore to get to your most used programs. Simply pin them to the start screen and you’re done.

50 years ago this is how people interacted with computers.

Minecraft is incredibly popular, I have no idea where you got the idea that it wasn’t. Notch made $ 100 million in 2012. Unpopular games don’t make that kind of cash.
