The Evolution of the Smartphone
[ad#250x250-wrap-1] There are so many great smartphones available on the market today. There are the very popular ones, but there are a lot more in the market than you might think. A lot of people think that Blackberry’s and Iphones are the cream of the crop. A big part of their appeal comes from the sleek look and design. Thought this might seem a superficial feature, a closer look would reveal that this sleekness in design may not only apply to the outside appearance or the ergonomic features of the smartphone, but also to the very software and appearance of the operating system it might include.
One can remember the days when cellular phones used to be, well simply phones. A lot of the old models looked much like walky-talkies. They had big antennas that could not catch signals in most places. Then came the foldable type. That became popular in the early nineties. Movies stars all had those black foldable types and it made them look good. These also had antennas and had text message capability.
Nokia, that company from Netherlands (yes, it is from Netherlands and not from Japan as most people might think). The company really revolutionized the whole cell phone industry. But it was way back in 1992 when the first smartphone was conceived. Although it might just have been a matter of coining the term for marketing purposes, IBM unveiled its first smartphone. And looking back at that phone, one can see how the smartphone broke so many barriers. It is now defined as the all in one phone. It serves as a phone but with most of the capabilities of your regular personal computer in a smaller more handy mobile scale. Most have windows mobile operating systems and contains the usual office tools. You can browse the internet and read your mail while on the go without the need to carry an unwieldy laptop. A decade ago, the idea of such powerful functionality fitting in your pocket was only found in science fiction literature and film.
The evolution of the smartphone now basically goes like this: everything is getting smaller: the smaller the technology, the better. Memory storage and capacity is being developed. Digital camera technologies are also being implemented so that you won’t have problems organizing your photos; blue tooth connectivity along with wireless and 3 g connections; battery capacity and lifespan are also important; and finally, digital plasma screen technologies are being researched. Software technology is one of the fastest to evolve because of its ephemeral nature. Now, it seems likely that the smartphone, with its small but accurate qwerty keypads might soon replace the laptop as the top computer gadget of all time.
