This software gives parents a safeguard against the overall challenges and dangers of a child having their own cell phone, including sexting.

With sexting on the rise, many parents need to know what their child is doing on their cell phone. But simply knowing what they're doing isn't enough. Certain activities may need to be blocked. Mobile Nanny allows parents to see everything their child does and block any disallowed activities. Complete text messages, call histories and GPS logs are viewable to parents online or inside an interface on the device itself.

The software allows parents to filter out activities they don't want to happen. The parent can block their child from communicating with specific phone numbers. Any phone number can be blocked from SMS and call communication. Specific websites and applications on the phone can also be blocked. The child can additionally be restricted from using the phone at certain hours the parent specifies, such as during school hours.

The software silently runs in the background after every start of the phone. To access the interface, the parent clicks an icon and enters their password. The program can also be fully hidden if the parent requires covert monitoring. As activities happen, the program silently uploads logs to the parent's private account, which they check online without needing access to the phone.

BATON ROUGE, La., Oct. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- On the heels of their participation in the National Safety Summit in Washington, D.C. obdEdge, llc, a member of the BlackBerry® ISV Alliance Program, announced today, the availability of the consumer version of cellcontrol(TM) -- the first comprehensive, patent-pending technology to curb the use of mobile devices while driving -- for BlackBerry® smartphones. cellcontrol is currently available for the BlackBerry® Pearl(TM) Flip; BlackBerry® Bold(TM); BlackBerry® Storm(TM), BlackBerry® Tour(TM) and BlackBerry® Curve(TM) series of smartphones, using BlackBerry® Device Software 4.5 and above.

cellcontrol works by plugging into the on-board computer, usually found underneath the steering column, of vehicles made in 1996 or later. Using Bluetooth® technology and a downloadable application for the BlackBerry smartphone, cellcontrol detects when a vehicle is in motion (moving above one mile per hour) and performs the following actions:

* Prevents the sending of texts and emails,
* sends incoming calls to voicemail and shows a missed call,
* prevents outgoing phone calls (except emergency numbers, i.e. 911 and user programmed "allowed" numbers.

There's no loss of communication to the user, as text messages and e-mail are received on the device. Users can also choose to block all mobile functions or select to block only texts or only phone calls, etc. cellcontrol can also prevent GPS and other mapping services from displaying on a Smartphone, if the user chooses. When the vehicle is stopped, all handset functions automatically return to normal.

Additionally, cellcontrol enables users to program certain numbers to be allowed through the system. For example, a parent can specify that calls from the home number or the parent's cell phone number(s) would still come through to their teen driver's phone. Users also have the freedom to customize which mobile features they want to restrict. For example, a user in Austin, TX may choose to block only text messages (since that is currently Texas state law) but still allow phone calls and email. The technology allows for one smartphone to be paired with many vehicles, or many smartphones paired to one vehicle, and will not affect passengers' cell phones.

Research has shown drivers who send text messages while driving are 23 times more likely to be involved in an accident, and drivers who talk on the phone, even on hands-free devices are four times more likely to cause an accident. This results in over 500,000 injury-resulting accidents each year. "Distracted driving is a pandemic problem in our country and Secretary LaHood and Pres.
